Willa Dean "Deanie" York was born 17 August 1930 in St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri. She was the daughter of Delbert Maloy "Loy" York and Emma Pauline McCown. The family included 5 children: Betty Jean, Willa Dean, Jerald David, James "Jimmy" Loy, and Glenda Faye. Willa Dean "Deanie" grew up most of her life in Tennessee, growing up in Memphis and attending High School in Nashville at the Trevecca Nazarene College.
Deanie met the love of her life, Darrell Vernon Chambers when he was in the Navy and attended her church (South Side Church of the Nazarene in Memphis, TN). When he first attended, she was a freshman in high school in Nashville at Trevecca Nazarene College, and they met when she went home for a visit. The Sunday School Class had a wiener roast, and they met that evening. They dated off and on for almost five years, then were married by Dr. S.T. Ludwig, who was the General Secretary of the Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City, and who was a boyhood friend of Vernon's father, during their childhood in Oklahoma, who also attended Bresee College under Rev. H.M. Chambers. On 1 September 1949 Vernon & Deanie were married in Hutchinson, Reno County, KS. This marriage produced the following offspring: Vernon Darrell (infant death), Darrell Vernon, Rebecca Lee, Paul Allen (infant death), David Alan, John Douglas, Mark Jeffrey, and Thomas LeRoy.
In 1960 Vernon & Deanie moved from New York to San Jose, California and raised their family there. 34 years later, after their kids were all grown and had moved out, in 1994 they bought a house on property located in Land Harbor, a golfing and vacation community near Newland, North Carolina. This was their retirement home until very recently when their daughter and son-in-law moved to Mountain Home, Idaho. Vernon & Deannie moved out to Mountain Home as well to be closer to the family.
Deanie was preceded in death by her father & mother, her sister Betty, brother Jerald, and her son's Vernon, Darrell, and Paul. She is survived by her brother James, her sister Glenda, her daughter Rebecca (Chambers) Sunderlin, and her son's David, John, Mark, and Thomas, 12 grand-children: Crystal Chambers, Derek Chambers, Audra (Sunderlin) Blum, Kimberly Sunderlin, Jennifer (Sunderlin) Hush, Nicole (Chambers) Bensen, Victoria (Chambers) Kroll, Benjamin Chambers, Chelsea (Chambers) Hoffman, Alyssa (Chambers) Bartlett, Brittney (Chambers) Labelle, and Michaela (Chambers) Fair; and 16 great-grandchildren: Roman Brown, Adriel Chambers, Kieran Chambers, Ivy Bensen, Isla Bensen, Jack Bensen, Maxwell Kroll, Piper Kroll, William Kroll, Andrew Hoffman, Henry Hoffman, Aspen Bartlett, Hunter Bartlett, Theodore LaBelle, Charlotte LaBelle, and Jonathan Fair.
Willa Dean (York) Chambers died at her new home in Mountain Home, Idaho on 19 September 2022. An Inurnment will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
