Virginia "Lou" Carter, 94, died on June 26, 2018 in Moundridge, KS. She was born July 31, 1923 in Cullison, KS to William Thomas and Carrie (Palmer) Snyder.
She married J. Lee Carter on May 31, 1947 in Winfield, KS. He died on May 2, 1988.
After graduating high school, Lou went on to graduate from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas with her teaching certificate. She was the first female student body president of Southwestern College. While in college she was a member of the Phi Gamma Mu, Phi Kappa Delta, Honorary Society's, Alpha Delta Kappa and the Honorary Teacher's Society. Lou was also the first person in her family to achieve a college degree.
Lou taught at the Wellington, Hays and Lakin High Schools.
In 1954, they moved to the Hutchinson community, where she taught at all three Jr. High schools. Lou and J. Lee volunteered for many years with the Cosmosphere as well.
Virginia held a church membership with Trinity United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She was also a member of the Duo Sunday School class.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; son, Jay Lee; brother, Thomas Ashford Snyder. Survivors include her daughter Kim (Jim) Lou Witt, Canton, KS; son, Max (Marsha) Lin Carter, Hutchinson, KS; two grandchildren Chris (Allison) George Witt and Ryne (Kathleen) Carter Witt; three great grandchildren, Mary Katheryn Witt, James George Witt, Carolyn Carter Witt; three step grandchildren, Andrea Parker, Christy Cline, Jessica Cline and six step-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m.to 7:00 p.m. at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018, 1:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, KS .
Inurnment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Cosmosphere, in care of the funeral chapel at 300 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, KS 675802.
