Vickie Lee Smallwood, age 76, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2026, at her home in Hutchinson, KS. Born on December 30, 1949, in Hutchinson, she was the daughter of David N. Keffer and Ruby J. (Burt) Keffer. She was one of six children and grew up alongside her brothers, Thomas, Ronald and Randy, and her sisters, Linda and Jeanette.

She was united in marriage to Kenneth Wayne Smallwood on September 8, 1967. Together they shared 34 beautiful years of marriage and built a life centered around love and family, prior to his passing on January 25, 2002. From their devoted union, they were blessed with two children, their daughter Amber and their son Trever. Being their mom was her greatest joy.

Vickie worked as a waitress at various places throughout the years, but the work closest to her heart was always caring for and loving her family. She treasured being a mom, grandma and great grandma. Her granddaughter Chynna Skinner and great-grandson Arlo brought her tremendous joy, and time spent with the people she loved was what mattered most to her.

Over the years country music was woven into many of her favorite memories. She loved listening to her dad, and her husband play in a country band, and those times remained special to her throughout her life.

She is survived by her children, Amber Skinner (James), Trever Smallwood; her granddaughter, Chynna Skinner (Josh); great grandson, Arlo; brother, Thomas Keffer (Jerri); sister-in-law, Joann Brothers (Mike), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vickie is proceeded in death by her beloved husband and parents, as well as brothers Ronald Keffer and Randy Keffer, sisters, Linda Keffer and Jeanette Sterling.

Vickie’s greatest legacy is the family she loved so dearly. She will be deeply missed and remembered by those whose lives she touched.

The family will hold a celebration of life at 10am on October 24, 2026, at Taylor’s Shady Lane Cabin at Dillon Nature Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to help with her final expenses can be made to Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, Hutchinson, KS.
