Inman – Maretta "Joan" McLaughlin, 86, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Pleasant View Home, Inman, Kansas. She was born July 3, 1931 in Sylvia, KS, the daughter of William H. & Mildred (Clothier) Shepherd. On January 19, 1973 she married Rufus F. McLaughlin in Medford, OK. She had been a clerk at Weeks Pharmacy, a bookkeeper at Prairie Dunes Golf Course and a collections agent for International Homes. Joan didn't have many hobbies in life, but she enjoyed playing cards, her chihuahua dogs, camping at the lake, collecting windmills & owls and watching roller derby. She loved her children and especially her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rufus on January 2, 1994, a brother, Don Shepherd and a sister, Norma Brackett. Joan is survived by three step-children, Debra Grigware of California; Steve (Jane) McLaughlin of Burrton; Mark (Julie) McLaughlin of Hutchinson; five grandchildren; one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Joan's life will be on Friday, May 25th, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the Sylvia Cemetery, Sylvia, Kansas. There will not be a public visitation as cremation was chosen. Memorials may be given to Hospice Services of Reno County and can be sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, KS 67502.
