Juanita Ann (Devore) Mahoney, 89, was escorted by angels on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Mennonite Friendship Communities in South Hutchinson to join her family. She was born on February 24, 1928 the daughter of Dae J. and Sophia A. (Bates) Devore in Kingman, KS.
Juanita married Martin E. Mahoney Jr. on July 15, 1945. He was shipped out to Japan the very next day. for active duty in WWII. Upon his discharge, Juanita and Martin moved to California for a few years before they moved to Medicine Lodge, where they lived for many years. In 1974 they moved to Hutchinson. He preceded her in death on July 31, 2008.
She held a membership with St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Hutchinson.
For over 12 and half years, Juanita worked for Avon as a sales representative. She was awarded several Ms. Albee statues. These were given for selling $10,000 or more of product in a year. During her earlier lifetime, she was active in the VFW; Cootie's Auxiliary, PTA and was on a bowling league while residing in Medicine Lodge. Juanita also loved to sew. She made her daughter many outfits and also made her Barbie dolls clothing. Juanita also made penny banks that were placed around businesses in the community for VFW. She would take the funds raised and donate to the cancer research groups.
Her heart was true and her love was deep for others. Juanita could be described as being creative. In nearly every aspect of her life, Juanita would find new and innovative ways to accomplish a task. When watching sports game with her family, she was always the one cheering on the team that was losing. Her words were that everyone needed to have someone to cheer for them. She was also a faithful, loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Preceding her in death are her parents, spouse and an infant child, Marnita Elaine Mahoney; sister, Alice Nelson.
Survivors include her daughter Catherine and favorite son-in-law, Michael Sotomayor, Hutchinson; grandson, Patrick Mahoney; granddaughter Sarah M. Sotomayor; great grandchildren, Wednesday Julian, Alex Mahoney, Cassidy Mahoney, Devin Sotomayor; great great grandchild, Charlotte Cantrell; sister-in-law Anne Marie Binks
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel from 2:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be on Tuesday, February 20th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Teresa's Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, February 20th beginning at 10:30 a.m. Father Mike Maybrier will be officiating.
Burial will be at the Peace Creek Cemetery in Sylvia, KS.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Research Center or Cancer Clinical Research in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th, and Hutchinson, KS 67502.
