Johnnie Lee
Cheeks, Jr.
Jun 27, 1958 — Nov 10, 2022
Johnnie "Junebug" Lee Cheeks, Jr. entered the Gates of Glory early Thursday morning, November 10, 2022 at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. He was born June 27, 1958, in Great Bend, Kansas to Johnnie Cheeks, Sr. and Virginia Lee (Robinson) Cheeks.
Johnnie attended Larned High School, Larned, KS. After completing school, he went on to serve in the United States Army, and later the National Guard. Upon discharge from the military, he found his home in Hutchinson with his family. He worked as a forklift operator for Midwest Iron and Metal for many years and for Superior Boilers until his health started to decline.
Johnnie was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where he participated in the church choir and as an usher. Serving the Lord was one of Johnnie's greatest joys and we all find peace in knowing that he is right where he wants to be.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and maternal grandparents (Winifred and Beulah Robinson), his father Johnny "Ace" Cheeks, Sr., and many dear aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Survivors include his daughter, Jonica Banks (Chris) of Clearwater, Florida; granddaughter, Aminah Banks who he was the greatest papa to; his mother, Virginia Cheeks of Hutchinson; sister, Jonnie Brown (Donnie) of Seattle, Washington; brother, Jerry Cheeks of Hutchinson; his longtime friend, Nece Killebrew; and many relatives and friends who loved him dearly and will miss him very much.
A Celebration of Johnnie's Life will take place on Wednesday, November 16 at 10:00 A.M., Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1015 E. 7th Ave, with Reverend William J. Green, Sr. officiating. A visitation will be held at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, on Tuesday, November 15 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Committal will follow at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, KS.
