Newton - John E. Cox Jr., 29, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at his home in Newton, KS.

He was born May 5, 1988 in Hutchinson, KS, the son of John Erik Cox Sr. and Angela R. (Espinoza) Gideon.

John had many hobbies throughout his life, boxing, fishing, fixing cars, rebuilding motors, hanging out with his brother Quarte and their friends, and listing to music. He loved his children and his family and wanted to spend as much time as possible with them. He loved eating at his mother's house, especially when she would make his favorite dish, enchiladas. John was a free spirit but was a very good at carpenter due to paying attention to every little detail and taking pride in his work. He was also very generous and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Mike Espinoza, grandmother Glenda Cox, great-grandfather Andrew Mendoza and great-grandmother Julia Mendoza.
John is survived by his mother Angela R. Gideon and step-father David Pounds both of Hutchinson; father, John Cox Sr. and wife Katherine of Ft. Supply, OK; a son, Damion Cox of Hutchinson; three daughters, Lillith Cox of Hutchinson, Lizabeth Dieker of McPherson, Leighanna Brown of Hutchinson; sister, Amber Cox of Hutchinson; brother, Quarte Cox of Newton; girlfriend, Kristina Riley of Newton; a half-brother, Ryan Gilliand of Iowa; step-brothers, Aron Pritchard of Ft. Supply, OK, Cory Pounds of Hutchinson; step-sisters, Debbie Pritchard, Ashley Jimenz, Tasia Pounds, Heather Pounds all of Hutchinson, Sami Pounds of Wichita; grandmother, Phillis Espinoza of Hutchinson and great grandmother, Delores Rioz of Newtonand many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, Hutchinson, KS, with Pastor Ryan Riagoza officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 26, 2018 at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel. Burial will take place in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, KS. Memorials may be given to John Erik Cox Jr. Memorial Fund and will be used to help with funeral costs.
