Obituary

Jerry C. Martin, 79, passed away March 16, 2026.  He was born on September 29, 1946, in Hutchinson, KS.  Jerry was the son of Samuel and Helen Martin.

A 1964 graduate of Hutchinson High School, Jerry earned his associate's degree from Troy State and dedicated his life to the Army.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving for 20 years, followed by a 15-year career with the U.S. Postal Service.  Jerry was also well known in the community through his work at McDonald's, Stucky's Sports Afloat, and Cessna.  He was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs; Jerry was often found reading a western novel or enjoying a game of bingo or bunco.  He was a man of steady character and simple joys.

He is proceeded in death by his parents; a sister, Elaine Jones and a great granddaughter, Skyler Cook.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Glenda Martin; children, Jolynn and Samuel; sister, Luann Martin; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Carl Jones; and several nieces and a nephew.

A remembrance gathering will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 3, 2026, at American Legion, 730 W. 4th Ave, Hutchinson, KS. Graveside military honors will be at 2:00 p.m. at Fairlawn Burial Park.  In honor of Jerry's love for the game, the family requests casual attire.  Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite team shirts if possible.  Arrangements and care entrusted to Hutchinson Funeral Chapel & Crematory.
