James Kevin Barrett, 65, passed away Friday, November 22, 2024, at Hospice House in Hutchinson, Kansas. Jim was born November 8, 1959, in Lake Minnetoka, MN, the son of Kenneth James and Shirley Ann (Robinson)Barrett.

Jim learned the trade of the concrete business from his dad and was employed by Smyth and Putnam Concrete companies. Jim enjoyed working at animal shelters; his two latest loves were his dogs Gladerol and Buddy. Jim never met a stranger; He was a friend to everyone he'd meet. Jim enjoyed woodworking and working with his hands.

For many years, Jim was involved with prison ministries and Teen Challenge, both as a participant and as a leader. Galatians 2:20 was one of Jim's favorite Bible verses. 'I have been crucified with Christ. It is no Longer I live, but Christ who lives in me.' Jim left this earth and met Jesus, face to face, who had redeemed Jim and paid all his debt for his sin, Full and Free. A free gift Jim accepted earlier in his life from Christ. Jim is freed from all the addictions he struggled with. I can hear Jim say, "It's a beautiful Thing!" realizing the Full impact of God's love, forgiveness and mercy. Jim's home church was Grace Bible Church.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Cassendra Shaylor.

Survivors include his daughter, Nicole Shaylor of Greshem, OR; his former wife, Suzanne Shaylor of Phoenix, AZ; his sister, Melonee (Darren) of Inman, KS; many aunts, uncles, cousins and 3 nieces/nephews and 8 great-nieces and 4 great-nephews.

Cremation will take place. Memorial service will be planned for a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Prison Ministries of Grace Bible Church and can be sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67502.
