Charles R. Buckaloo, 66, died on November 3, 2018 at the Pleasantview Home in Inman, KS. He was born on March 12, 1952 in Hutchinson to Pete and Viola (Sharp) Buckaloo. Charles graduated from Hutchinson High School and attended the Hutchinson Community College. On September 19, 1972, he enlisted in the United States Army. He servied in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on December 4, 1975 as Sgt. 1st Class. On December 6, 1990 Charles was ordered into Active Duty to support the Operation of Desert Storm. He was honorably discharged on May 29th, 1991 at Fort Riley, KS. He earned his National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal "Korea", Overseas Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Rifle and Marksman Pistol. His primary specialty title was military police, with service of 16 years and 9 months. In May of 1976 Charles married Kum Sun Choe in Hutchinson, Kansas. Charles holds a membership with the VFW of Hutchinson and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the Hutchinson Kennel Club.
Charles shared his experience training dogs for the Army as an instructor with the Hutchinson Kennel Club. He was a tireless advocate for a new Animal shelter for Hutchinson. The City Council appointed Charles to serve on the Animal Care Advisory Board to advise them on plans for the Animal Shelter. He was a founding member of Cause for Paws, Inc and served as past President of the Board of Directors. Charles was instrumental in Cause for Paws, Inc. establishing an Endowment at the Hutchinson Community Foundation to sustain their mission. Thanks to Charles vision and leadership, Hutchinson has a beautiful Dog Park. He lead the design, construction and fundraising for the Dog Park and established the Annual Mutt Strut event to support the Dog Park improvements. Charles is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Mike and Ernie Buckaloo. Survivors include his wife Kum Sun Buckaloo, Hutchinson; daughter, Jeanie S. Pearson and grandson Charles, Douglas; son, Ernie L. Buckaloo, Groton, NY; brother, Vernon L. Buckaloo Hutchinson; two sisters, Frances M. Buckaloo, Hutchinson and Christina Buckaloo, Buhler, KS. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present to greet guests from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel & Crematory. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th Ave., Hutchinson, KS 67501. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hutchinson Community foundation Cause for Paws Endowment and can be sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67502.
