Bruce Cole, 99, died May 1, 2022 just 27 days shy of his 100th birthday. He died at the Good Samaritan Home in Hutchinson, KS. He was born May 28th, 1922 in Sterling KS, Reno County the son of Arthur Thomas and Elizabeth Black Cole.
He was a US Navy Veteran in World War II serving from 1941 to 1951. He had six years active duty and another four in Navy Reserves. He was on several ships during active duty and several different jobs. He married Helen (Dolly) Kahler in 1949. They never had a family of their own but had many nieces and nephews that filled that missing piece in their lives. He was a machinist at Krause Plow and Masters in Hutchinson. He worked and retired from Gardner Denver in Colorado where they lived for many years before moving back to Hutchinson.
He came from a family of 12 kids. He is survived by one sister, Dorothy L Gradick, of Falon, Nevada. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Thomas Quincy, William, Lester Franklin, Arthur Thomas Jr., Fred, and George; four sister, Ivy Viola Ross, Naomi Pauline Birt Bottoms, Winifred Elizabeth (Betty) Swepston and Christina Buck Puckett.
A graveside service will be held on May 11, 2022 at Memorial Park Cemetery (Rayls Hill), Hutchinson, KS at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made given to the Reno County Veterans Memorial and can be sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave. Hutchinson 67502.
