Bobby Joe Lawson, 86, died on November 20, 2018 at Hospice House in Hutchinson, KS. He was born July 9, 1932 in Waldron, AR, the son of Lee and Florence (Golden) Lawson. Bobby enlisted in the United States Navy in April 1954 and was a fireman on overseas during the Korean War until his was honorably discharged on April 8, 1955. Bobby married Roberta Stricklin. She passed away August 24, 1992.He worked in maintenance for Morton Salt where and retired after 45 years.
He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge, worked at the Kansas State Fair for many years, and was a volunteer at the Reno County Museum. He was also a member of South Hutchinson Christian Church. Bobby loved to go hunting, fishing and camping with his family. Preceding him in death are his parents; wife, Roberta; daughter, Debbie Tompkins; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Survivors include his son John (Tena) Lawson, Hutchinson; grandchildren, Nick Tompkins, Tennessee, Kristen Tompkins, Hutchinson, Dustin Kennedy, Kentucky, Kelsey (Leon)Harrison , Melanie Kennedy, South Hutchinson, Alicia (Rob) McKim; great grandchildren, Britney Bortz, Darby Tompkins, Leukas Tompkins, Alexis Tompkins, Xayvion ,Rashawn ,Tramel, Melena ,Karson, Khloe, RJ, and Kaylee. There will be no visitation since cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at South Hutchinson Christian Church, 111 E. 1st, South Hutchinson.
